Update on my Life

Feb 10, 2010 20:34

So life has reached a rhythm for me. I have a new, full time job now working as a government contractor, doing kind of file clerking and administrative aid stuff. Everyone I work with is at least eight years older than me. It's got health insurance. And paid holidays. It's funny to me because my coworkers seem to think I have a terrible job because I do things like copy and file. But compared with part-time work, this stuff is great! I like how I am there 40 hours a week. I have been working the job for three weeks, and I feel like I am part of a community, like really part of it. You get to see whole dramas develop. Also, it's really, really great to be done with work at 4:30 every day. Not like the three jobs, where I would regularly work late on Information Nights. I often don't know what I am doing, but everyone seems to think I am learning quick.

I applied to Grad School on time, as I had wanted to. I should hear by mid-April for UW, earlier for Michigan, no clue for Texas. I am too busy with new job right now to think much about the Impending Future. I'm filling out the end of a six month contract. That's why I took the job, because around school time it gives me an easy out without the mess of quitting. I think it's pretty possible, if they don't cut the position, that in the even I do not get into grad school, I could work it another year and then apply again for school. Granted, I wouldn't get more library experience, but I could definitely improved my GRE scores and essays.

Cubicle culture reminds me a lot of high school. There's a lot of worrying about how you look, what people are thinking about you. Much gossiping about other people in hushed tones. I like the closeness of it, but sometimes I don't like the stupid little power plays. Really, if that girl wants to use my stapler, I don't really give a fuck about it. Maybe it means she is walking all over me. But really who cares?

Had to get new business casual clothes. A pain, but it's high school. gotta fit in.
