Every time Jun came by to see his brother, she found him with his head in a textbook. One day it was just going to get stuck there, she wagered. Most of the time, she let him be, more interested in chasing after her crush. Today, though...
Her eyes drifted over to the young man, almost curiously, while she waited for Shuu to finish a phone call.
"You really put a lot of time into your schoolwork, don't you?"
Jou blinked, at first somewhat puzzled that she seemed to be talking to him. He paused in his writing and looked up with a calm smile. "It's important for me to do well, and I believe in giving it my best."
"Mmmh..." Jun pondered this with a bit of a frown. "But don't you ever take the time to have some fun? Go out and see your friends?"
Was she worried about him? He adjusted his glasses as a brief stall.
"I do sometimes. But my future is riding on the present tense."
Jun tipped her head. "That's exactly my point. Spend too much time alone now, and where are you going to be in the future?"
Jou was a little ashamed to admit that she just might have a point. That made him nervous. He didn't like being taken off-guard.
Was he really overlooking part of his future? It was so hard to know what to do for it sometimes. Try your best, panic, cram, rush rush rush, get dizzy, fall down, get back up, rinse and repeat.
Jun leaned forward with one hand on the back of his chair and peered at him over his shoulder, winking. "Don't think too much!"
The sick irony was after Jun and his brother left, he found himself forced to think even more than he had before.
On the other hand, the next time Jun came by to see his brother, he was nowhere to be found. Visiting with friends, Shuu informed her.
She smiled.
