Challenge #15: Supersingular

Jan 04, 2017 10:34

OOPS. Hey, guess who has two thumbs and completely, 100% forgot her own flipping challenge? THIS LADY. /o\

The 15th Annual 'A Picture is Worth a 1000 Words' Challenge: Supersingular

So, It's Like This...

The challenge goes as follows: each participant is assigned a picture that will serve as the inspiration for a story (how you define "inspiration" is up to you). The catch is that each story must be exactly one thousand words in length, no more, no less - and trust me, it's not as easy as it sounds!

Everyone gets one picture to start. It's called a challenge for a reason, so you may need to get creative. Just remember: the picture itself need only serve as inspiration, not necessarily be a literal part of the story.

Any fandom, pairing, rating, or genre (including real person and original fic) is welcome. Stories won't be due until March 31, 2017, which means gives you two full months to write!

The Twist

Every year I add a theme to the challenge. This is the 15th year for the challenge, and it turns out there are 15 so-called "supersingular" prime numbers, according to the delightfully-named Moonshine Theory. Now I'm not cruel enough to ask you all to write about numbers, so instead, you will each receive a picture of a (super!) singular person or item.

Again, this need only serve as inspiration. Stories do not need to be explicitly about the photograph, and the subject or item does not necessarily need to even feature in your story. We're just trying to get the motor running!
