OK, here's my photo.

At the moment, yes, I can imagine some scenarios coming off this pic but they're all dystopian (pace the photographer, that just seems to be my gut reaction to rows of gleaming, identical metal objects), and I would really like to write something that's not... those things.

The only thing I've come up with so far is "fearful symmetry" --> Blake (which isn't necessarily bad), but I'd be grateful for other ideas beyond this so that there's more of a range to choose from.

Thank you ♥

Makes me think of bank safety deposit boxes or little storage lockers -- you never know what could be hidden inside?

Ooh! That's an intriguing idea. (Casefic perhaps, or an inheritance?) Thank you!

They look like mailboxes to me, like the ones in a large apartment building. Maybe somebody's moved to a new place and is trying to acclimate, maybe somebody's received an interesting/intriguing bit of mail.

They are indeed mailboxes -- the photographer comments in a note that they are departmental mailboxes used by professors at a university.

Your first scenario has tickled something in my mind that might work very well. Thank you ♥

One of them is missing its nametag. Why? How? What happened? Who's gone? Where? Did they move away, disappear, flee, get removed, die?

Who shines them up?

All intriguing questions!

Thank you for these ♥ I'm going to muse over them and see what bubbles up. This does give me potentially quite a lot to work with!
