music realted stuff

OMG band last night was SO good. We're HUGE this year. We had SEVENTY members last night including FIVE HORNS! :o The sound is very strange, it's a very middle heavy with too many saxes and horns (a band really should only have one tenor sax, they're very loud!), but it's not an insurmountable obsticle. We also had heaps of flutes, but we can cope with that too. I think the problem was that we only had half the tuba and trombone sections there and no eupho, so the bottom end wasn't as strong as it normally is, but once they're all there. WOW!!

I rang brass and woodwind re my flute and they had a 6 week waiting list. I expected that, but I can't realyl wait that long, so I looked up instrument repairers in the yellow pages (the Geelong YP as that's where I am now) and found a guy in Wandana Heights who turned out to be the dad of a guy who played alto sax in school band with me. He (the father that is) is a professional oboe player in the RAAF band and works as an instrument repairer at BIlly Hydes, but also fixes instruments privately. As he has little work at the moment, he can look at mine quicker than B&W can, so yay! I took it to him this morning and he said it needs a full repad which would cost about $600, YIKES. This is what I get for not having it serviced more reguarly.

I told him I don't have that much money, so he said he could replace a few pads and strip and polish it for about $200. I also took my piccolo with me as it needs a key adjusted and a couple of pads replaced (one has cracked) and he said he could do that for about $100, so I'm going to get them both done as soon as he gets the parts and before uni goes back and I need them three days a week.

May be going to the beach now and to see my brother in Ocean Grove, he bought a new car yesterday, a 98 Excel, two door, which personally I hate Excels, my dad has one, but he's happy with it. Like he, he had issues with the bank recently. Oh yeah, they LOST my rent, idiots. I'm not paying it again. Luckily I have the receipt and the real estate agent beleives me that I paid it.
