Stolen Car Update

Ok so the police called me on monday night to tell me that they had "recovered" my vehicle and that it was "undrivable" so they were having it towed to the impound lot. They didn't tell me anything else about the condition of the car or its whereabouts when they called, so I was in suspense all day at work Tuesday until I could drive down to look at it. (I have an insurance-supplied rental) Undrivable is such a broad term. That could mean that it was totaled in an accident, or maybe the windsheild was broken, or it crashed and the bumper was rubbing on the tire, or it's been dismantled and all they found was an empty frame...I was hoping for something small. Well it wasn't COMPLETELY dismantled...the engine block and pieces of the dash were intact...and the body of the car was in great shape. The inside of the car was complete rubble. He got my stereo, all the speakers, took out the speedometer-fuel guage area, ONE tire, and everything in the engine area but the actual engine block. It was surreal to think that this car had been mine. I wish I had a digital camera to show you the carnage, but eh. I have film pictures so that I can take the guy to small claims court after the cops are done with his ass.

Turns out they found it in rose park at some guy's house with two other stolen cars behind it in the driveway. What a moron, thinking that nobody in the neighborhood would suspect three honda civics parked in his driveway were stolen. So it's looking like I'll be getting a new car. My insurance company wil be giving me a check for the amut the car was worth, but that prolly only about $3500. It's a good down payment I guess. I'm not looking forward to having a car payment again. It's really a lot of money that I need to use elsewhere. Funds will be scarce for awhile.

But such is life. I'm surprisingly un-freaked out about this whole ordeal. I think it's because I'm not in school this semester and therefore not going through finals on top of the stress of having my car stolen. I guess in a way I'm lucky that the school screwed up my tuition and I wasn't allowed to attend this semester. It's also a very good thing that I opted to pay for full coverage insurace. It's nice to be able to find the good things out of the bad things.

Speaking of good things, time for yummy Su Casa mexican food. Kevin's off school so we're going to dinner and a movie.
