Today was a day trip out to Milford Sound - a lovely bus ride with plenty of stops at gorgeous rivers and gorges to tramp around, and then a boat out through the sound - which is technically a fiord - and was beautiful and intense and just wow. I did learn that 3 pm is a bad time to be driving through Fiordland National Park, as you might get hit by a treevalanche. It's like an avalanche, but with trees. Also, when traveling up into the mountains, it gets cold. And then it snows on you, even in the summer. Crazy stuff. We also saw some really cool native birds, both out in the wild and at a sanctuary. Good times.
