Seeing Rachel and D really was wonderful, I didn't realize how much I missed the company of more than just one person. Thanks, guys, I had a great night!
Yesterday morning we took a leisurely drive down to Mt. Cook, stopping at a few very cool places on the way. First stop was a tiny town where we stopped into a wool and felt workshop. It was weird, as it was in someone's house, but mom knocked anyway and she came out and showed us some cool stuff, and we ended up doing a quick felting workshop and I made my very own felted scarf. I feel accomplished :). We continued down the road to Geraldine, where we saw a recreation of the Bayeux Tapestry made from bits of knitting machine cogs and enamel paint. The shop also housed the (Guiness certified) world's largest jersey. Which apparently means sweater. It was pretty cool. Continuing on, the weather took a bit of a turn for the worse, and by the time we arrived in the Mt. Cook area, visibility was basically at zero and we could not, in fact, see NZ's largest mountain that we were staying at the foot of. Ah well. I went for a bit of a hike this morning to see if going higher negated the pea-soup fog, but to no avail. Driving away from the area, however, did mean we got a change in weather, and today turned out to be a beautiful, warm day. We had another slow drive, stopping at a fruit stand with some delicious cherries, and a "cheesery", and then a GORGEOUS drive through Kawarau Gorge. I did NOT go bungy jumping in the gorge, which boasts the title of first bungy location, as it was completely booked for the day. I was pretty disappointed, but I think I may just have to come back to NZ again to do it, perhaps with someone who is a bit more positive about the whole experience. We stopped in Arrowtown afterwards, and went on a decent walk around the river where they shot some of LOTR. Nothing is left of the sets, but it was a nice walk nonetheless. We finally got down to Queenstown, where we will be for a couple days, and I will have tons of awesome stuff to write about tomorrow.. it will be a long, full and amazing day!
