What's Wrong With Blue Beetle

I never bothered picking up the current/recently cancelled Blue Beetle book, with the exception of the Sinestro Wars tie-in. Nothing about the book ever seemed interesting to me. The character didn't seem especially original (a novice superhero learning the ropes...very fresh...oh, but wait, this one's Hispanic!), and despite being named after two existing characters, didn't have much in common with either except for a shared element with the first one's origin. It didn't even feel like it "mattered" (by which I mean, it didn't feel like one of those books you can't afford to skip if you want to understand a bunch of other books), which, absent any inherent appeal, is a book's last chance to get me to at least pick up the first issue.

I know a lot of people, including a few of you, or at least a very vocal but small minority have been screaming about how great it is. The above link is to a ripping-apart of one issue of the series, along with a wider discussion of what's wrong with superhero comics. It's also very funny.
