[Background]
Click here, Professah! [Personality] In a single word, Professor Hershel Layton can be described as gentlemanly. The Professor is a true, classic British gentleman. He brews and drinks tea, he minds his manners, and above all, he is always calm and collected. He sports a very dashing English top hat, a sentimental token from his late college sweetheart and a clothing item he believes a gentleman should never take off except under very special circumstances. Charming and chivalrous, he always treats a lady with gentility and care. He has a talent for making friends with ease, and his warmth and gentle nature tends to win most who speak with him over.
He also possesses an extremely keen and quick intellect. He is intelligent enough to rise to preeminence not only as an archaeology professor, but as a mastermind at solving puzzles and an expert investigator. Besting him with a puzzle is not only a nigh impossible task, but it is the easiest way to embarass him. He is so intelligent, that he is often called in by colleagues, friends, neighbors, even the police to help solve tremendous, mind-boggling mysteries. And, of course, along the way he gives and takes a few brain-teasing puzzles of his own.
But despite his intelligence, he never looks down on others that are blessed with less brain than he. He treats all individuals with the utmost respect, even those who call themselves his enemy. To anyone he greets, he is often ready with a friendly smile on his face.
He is also fond of those he considers family, Luke and Flora, to be precise. He is fiercely protective of them both, and would go to great lengths to make sure they are both kept safe and sound under his care - even in light of the often dangerous adventures the trio embarks on whenever he receives a new mystery to solve.
Lastly, Layton is also incredibly brave and athletic, pressing forth in the face of danger with fresh-faced and rather chipper curiosity. A true gentleman has to be if he is expected to tackle some rather tricky mysteries, don't you agree?
[Abilities] Professor Layton is blessed with an impressive array of talents: high intelligence, quick wit befitting of a gentleman, athleticism, strength, a high aptitude and propensity for tinkering with machinery, and the ability to make friends with ease. He is one of the best puzzle-solvers alive today, and he is proud to collect them for a hobby. He excels at brewing a perfect cup of English tea. He is masterful at fencing. He can drive cars, navigate boats, and fly helicopters if the situation calls for it.
But in the end he is only human. In brute strength, he is no match for superpowers. But then again, Layton does possess the astounding ability to use his mind over matter and defeat opponents with his quick thinking alone.
[Affection] Professor Layton only had one true love, so it's doubtful he will find another girlfriend anytime soon. Beyond that, he enjoys gentlemanly shows of affection. A cordial handshake, the occasional hug with his child charges.
[Fighting] Layton is quite athletic and will hold his own in a fight (and especially a fencing match). That said, just come to me for permission if you're considering fighting Layton, because he prefers solving everything without the use of ungentlemanly violence.
[Other Permissions] ASK ME FOR STUFF FIRST.
[Other important stuff] There are three things Layton holds most dear: the Laytonmobile (a customized car with a raised roof so as to accomodate his stovepipe top hat), a delicious cup of tea, and his hat. He is also extremely fond of puzzles, and even the most mundane of objects can remind him of one in his vast collection.
He also keeps a large trunk with him at all times. Inside the trunk, he carries his personal journal, his puzzle collection, the keys to the Laytonmobile, a docket of files keeping track of all the mysteries he has solved and has yet to solve, his archaeology paperwork, a tea set, and other exotic trinkets that he picks up along his journeys. More objects will be added to Professor Layton's Trunk the longer he resides in Somarium.
