Because Canon is Good (and in no way a pain in the ass)

Oct 13, 2006 00:17

I've just gone through almost all my stories (though not Survivor's Guilt yet) and fixed them according to the official canon timeline.

1) Marauder birthdates: I'd been operating off the idea that the Marauders were born in 1959/60 rather than 1958/59, which is more likely correct. You wouldn't think it would make such a difference, but it does. If the Marauders finished school in 1977 rather than 1978, that's four years instead of three between Hogwarts and the fall of Voldemort. A lot can happen in a year. But I think I've fixed most of those issues.

2) Regulus's dates: The posting of the official Black Family Tree on the HP Lexicon has given me no end of trouble. It gives firm birth and death dates for Regulus which were in slight conflict with the dates I had given him in my Diaries of Regulus Black story. The biggest problems with this were, a) I can't actually change the dates on the scanned images of the diaries, and b) I had to move the entry mentioning the death of Regulus's father by more than a year to bring it in line with his dates on the tree.

3) Bye-Bye Bellatrix: I originally had Bellatrix Lestrange in the same year as the Marauders, and even dating Peter for a while. This (once again according the the official family tree) doesn't work. Bellatrix was apparently born in 1951, which means she would have left Hogwarts before the Marauders ever got there. Hence, I've had to bring in a stand-in to fill the role. Meet Madeleine Yaxley, my new Slytherin OC. She's here to seduce Peter and lead him astray.

If you see anything I've missed, please let me know!
