"Focus, Black!" bawled Gandolfsson from the front of the classroom, where he presided over the chaos. "Keep your damn eyes on your opponent!"
Sirius clenched his jaw and did not reply as he and James switched off, James performing Shield charms to deflect Sirius's jinxes. So Sirius was quite surprised when he ended up flat on his back, head throbbing from where it had hit the edge of a desk.
"You okay?" Remus was kneeling over him, looking concerned.
"Yeah." He sat up. "What happened?"
"Snape," Remus muttered.
Sirius rubbed the back of his head, glancing across the room to where Snape's cold black eyes regarded him.
"Oops," said the Slytherin dispassionately. "Guess I missed."
