accidental exposure to porn x2

1. My stupidity

So I'm thinking of starting another blog, which will be all about piano teaching, piano practice, piano music, piano playing -- basically, about the piano. I stop myself from ranting on about piano-related things here because I know they wouldn't be of much interest to most of you. :) But I must have an outlet! Hence the Piano Blog Plan.

In order to get this plan going, last week I spent half an hour trying out various URLs, to see if there were any good ones not taken. My first idea was "88keys.com", which seemed ideal -- easy to remember and type, clever, slightly cryptic. But someone else had got there first. So I worked my way down the list, getting more and more frustrated that so many good piano-ish URLs were being wasted on rubbish websites (unlike the one I had planned, obviously). Then I thought of "ebonyandivory", so I typed it in -- grumpily expecting to find that it was a fan-site for the naff song of the same name, the song that asked how it was that we (people) could continue being racially intolerant when inanimate slices of ivory and black-painted wood could co-exist so peacefully (and inanimatedly) on piano keyboards.

Imagine my surprise when it turned out to be a porn site. I am so stupid.

2. Matt's stupidity

Two days after the above, we had a conversation:

Matt: I had a comment on my blog today, from someone called Shamalleez.

Me: Great! What were they saying?

Matt: It was a bit weird, actually. Something about string theory, or cubits, or something.

Me: Okay...

Matt: Maybe English wasn't their first language.

Me: Yeah, probably.

Matt: Anyway, I clicked on their name, to see if they had an art site too and...

Me: What? Was it rubbish?

Matt: No. It was porn.

Me: Shit! Really?

Matt: Yeah. *embarrassed laugh*

Me: So it was just a bit of comment spam in your blog?

Matt: Yeah. Um. I probably should've guessed from their name, though.

Me: What? Shamalleez?

Matt: Well, when I looked at it again it actually said "shemales".

Me: *incoherent with laughter*

What he didn't tell me until the next day was that he hadn't actually worked out for himself that "shemales" was "she males". It was just that the porn site said, in huge letters across the top of the screen, "SHE MALES". Matt is an idiot. It's lucky that I am too. :D

there's always something you could do, matt
