I feel sick. Like, dying-sick. Maybe it's anticipatory of who I have to work with tomorrow. Urgh.

Uh. Every Wednesday, I want to do a meme. Like so:

The Hypothetical AU Meme: Take any one of the fandoms you know I like AND give me another time period (Ancient Rome, Regency England, etc.) OR give me a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, ( Read more... )

Hrm. Don't know too, too much about Regency England, but here we go.

I'm using Silent Hill 2 for this because of the varied and colorful characters, but if there's a particular installment you want me to do instead, I will~.

James is a stoic, woeful upper-middle class clerk still mourning the death of his lovely wife even though she perished three years ago after a wasting disease. It's really a blessing that she's at peace, but they had just begun to share their life together and he feels robbed because of it.

Maria is the niece of Ernest Baldwin, one of his most important clients, and she grabs his attention right away due to her uncanny resemblance to his late wife, though their personalities couldn't be more different. She's been known to hold bawdy masques in one of her uncle's homes on the moors and he pays a lot of money to keep such news out of the papers. Has no desire to marry James (or anybody), but sees no harm in having him court her, though she will catch the same wasting disease that took Mary.

Angela is one of James' housekeepers who took the job to escape her family, especially her abusive father, and has a tenuous grasp on sanity at best; often talking to herself and prone to hysterics. Otherwise, she's competent at what she does.
She ends up in a sanitarium and eventually commits suicide by self-immolation with the aid of an oil lamp.

Laura, an orphan, hangs around with Eddie, another wastrel and part-time burglar, whom she disparages at every turn even though he swipes food with which to feed her.
Startled during one of his late night raids, Eddie shoots and accidentally kills the owner of the house that he is thieving from. He is on the run for most of the story before being gunned down by James with Maria in tow in a case of mistaken identity (thinking he's Pyramid Head) one evening.
Laura is adopted by Ernest Baldwin before long, at first as a replacement for his deceased daughter Amy, but he comes to adore her as if she were truly his flesh and blood. Laura grows up with dreams of opening her own orphanage so no child will have to live on the street, never knowing the love of a guardian.

There are heinous murders being committed around the area by a depraved criminal known cryptically as Pyramid Head for the strange triangular helmet he wears. His victims are often prostitutes that he rapes and mangles and it's soon revealed that he has his eye on Maria. The popular theory is that he is a butcher by trade, but there are no other leads regarding his true identity.
In the climax, it turns out to be James who has begun to compulsively kill young, sexualized women after Mary's death.
