I completely revamped the ol' LJ with new icons and a gorgeous new layout. If you like the header, you can grab one for yourself here. :)

Yesterday was utterly nuts. Early in the afternoon I had an interview where Blake works doing environmental testing. Sheldon, the dude who interviewed me, kept me well over an hour which I though was a very good sign. The position I applied for hasn't been okay-ed yet, but with the barrage of soil and water samples the labs been getting it's only a matter of time.

After that, I paid an inadvisable visit to Movie Gallery.
They're going out of business and had to clear the store of DVDs, fixtures and furnitures as soon as possible. All DVDs were on sale for 99 cents or less and, due to my objectively awesome taste in movies, I snagged a bunch of flicks I wanted and wouldn't likely be able to find outside of Amazon. About two dozen movies, including eight Mom picked out, only cost me $37. Freakin' sweet, right?
Not exactly. Because of this one unimaginable asshole, one of the computers were down and the other two were moving at a snail's pace. The guy had been there since 11AM grabbing as many DVDs as he could. Eventually the total came to 648 movies. He smiled and shared with the ever-growing and agitated line of people waiting for the computers to process their purchases that he was "unemployed and didn't have anything better to do." I'm sure he only bought stack after stack to sell them later for a high price. I don't think I've ever wished a slow and painful death on a stranger as sincerely as I did that fucker.
Speaking of the line, I stood there for 5 1/2 hours. This is not an exaggeration. I was there from 3:45 until after eight and wanted to die. I still had my boots on from the interview, which were tight and had very high heels. The pain got so bad that I had to take off my shoes every five minutes.
One more bit of craziness was a guy who had to cut out of line before he got to the counter due to a hospital emergency. He left his movies with one of the girls manning the desk with the intention of coming back for them the next morning. After he gave her his name and number, he thought the guy in front of me had something smart to say and tried to pick a fight with him. Instead of driving off to his supposed emergency. Then this redneck woman behind me, who had a manlier voice than her husband (who smelled like a pile of dirty socks), I guess got all wet at the opportunity to exacerbate an argument that had nothing to do with her. When hospital guy was finally pulling out of the parking lot the hag ran outside under the guise she was gonna light a smoke to scream at him further. Stay classy, Savannah~.

I'm so happy I quit that pit before it really got that bad.

But last night wasn't a total loss! Blake, Shawn (!) and I saw the new Nightmare on Elm Street. Ho. Lee. Shit, you guys. Though the trailer looked pretty scary, I didn't think it could trump the 1984 original in terms of fear.
Robert Englund has immortalized Freddy Krueger, there's no doubt about that, but Jackie Earle Haley brings so much pure menace to the role while also perfectly mimicking Englund's mannerisms back when he wore those unforgettable razor-fingered gloves. Die-hard fans should be pleased to hear that Freddy's signature one-liners are also present.
Sadly, there are only two really notable cast members aside from Haley. Katie Cassidy, who plays Kris Fowles -- filling in the role of the Tina character from the very first movie, was lookin' beautiful and rocked every scene she was in, which was likely difficult since she spends so much of her time on screen in tears. Then there's Kyle Gallner as Quentin Smith. He comes off as a freshly-discovered and natural talent, though his career dates back to 2000. I gotta give Kellan Lutz props, too.
Regarding the new Nancy, I am disappoint. The girl didn't have that extra special something that Heather Langenkamp did. I would've rather seen the 45 year-old actress reprising Nancy instead of Rooney Mara, who is Yawnsburg, population: 1.
Despite that, if you are at all fond of horror movies, do not miss Elm Street. I can't stress how excellent it is.

movies, pseudo-reviews, horror movies are my anti-drug, ughhh, work, outside my comfort zone, rant
