Richard/Cynthia.
Help!
Chapter one's up. Nevermind how short it is, and already I'm hitting snags in the storyline.
One: What's the best way of getting them from point A to point B? That is, how would Cynthia go about tracking Richard down and more or less inviting herself into his apartment?
Since it's the tiniest bit AU-ish (it's unlikely I'll be implementing the 21 Sacraments stuff), I thought that she could maybe grill Eileen over who he is and where he lives, but I don't know if that's exactly in Cynthia's nature to do that to a stranger. She could say he owes her a drink in case her date went sour, but that's a shaky concept at best. And I don't want to make her look easy, you know? If for the simple fact that she's not, regardless of how she dresses.
Two: I want the two of them to bond over something, or reach an understanding of one another, but they're so different. She's the flirty, devil-may-care party girl and he's the hot-tempered, self-appointed hall monitor of South Ashfield Heights who would never trouble himself with frivolity. I want there to be a real relationship there, and I want them to have more in common than their mutual appreciation for Amontillado Sherry.
Three: Can I make this work without the dreary, imposing Silent Hill atmosphere? No monsters, no impregnable fog and maybe a passing mention of Walter Sullivan or someone else involved in The Order (as in, "Have you heard that creepy story from the next town over about this cult... ?"). You can definitely give it such a broad label as slice-of-life, but is it wise to apply it to a fic based on one of the most infamous mindfuck survival horror games?
Maybe they can take a vacation in Silent Hill, I dunno, lololol. Ashfield's a pretty depressing place, yes (see icon)? A slate gray skyline, fortress-like buildings, nothing outstanding about the city at all. It's a good enough setting as any, I think.
Chime in!
