Ranting, Pancakes, and Telephone Calls

Today's rant is about euchre. If you don't know how to play, you should learn. It's probably the easiest trick game to learn, and it's a fairly quick game (you only have five cards each hand).

First, stupid euchre players piss me off. Sometimes they're obviously stupid, playing dumb cards and calling the wrong suits. Sometimes they're not so open about their stupidity. Sometimes they accidently do something intelligent, so you think you're okay. And then later, they fall apart. I would rant more about stupid euchre players, but I'd have to cite examples that I think would probably go overlooked by those that read this thing.

Second, going alone is the cheapest way to win. To win a game, you need to make 10 points. Most hands are worth one point, but if you win all the tricks or set your opponents, you get two points. So each team needs a minimum of five hands to win, right? Oh no...if you think you can take all the tricks by yourself, you can go alone. If you do get all the tricks, you get four points. If you don't, but still manage to win the hand, you still get a point. I think that's screwed up. First of all, there's no skill in going alone. It's all luck of the draw. If you get a good hand, you could go alone. Second of all, it's unbalancing. If your opponents get three good hands, they could win. Just three hands. That's bull crap. Hence, I think going alone is cheap. I also think that if you do go alone and don't manage to get all the tricks, the other team should get two points, just as if they'd won the hand.

I made breakfast this morning with Lee. Lee made some awesome chocolate chip pancakes, and I cooked up some bacon. I was so full. Then the ladies went apartment shopping.

Yesterday I got a call from this guy about my resume. Unfortunately, I wasn't here when he called. So I called him back, and he wasn't there (he was in a "meeting"). Then today I called him back. He was in another "meeting". Yeah...bull crap. Maybe he really was, but I doubt it, since his secretary went to see if he could leave his meeting to take my call this morning. I used to give that same "meeting" line to people that called the tech support line all those years ago. He doesn't seem very concerned with returning my call, so I'm not really concerned with working for his company. Besides, it's way down in Loganville. I'd rather stay in Rome.

Yesterday I also got a call from a fellow named Travis from Talk America. He was very concerned that I might be overpaying on my phone bill, and he generously offered to switch me over to his cheaper, far superior service. I told him to send me an email and call me back tomorrow. Well, I didn't get the email, but he did call me back this morning. He said his email got returned as "undelieverable", so I gave him my real email address and he said he'd call me back tomorrow. Talking to Travis is a rather pleasant experience. If you get a call from Travis, be sure to tell him that Mr. Middleton says hi. Or, if you don't want to wait for Travis to call you, you can call him at 1-888-280-9615 x1659. He's a nice guy, and he can probably keep you from overpaying on your phone bills as well. Such a helpful fellow.

Groove Armada is rocking my face off.
