List 3 specific abilities/talents/traits that you have which are always be useful. Obviously, "I am good at playing video games," is not applicable because one will not *always* have a computer/game consol. "I am good with my hands," or "I am good with people," is not good because those are way to general.
my 3 are:
I teach well
I can do complicated things in stressful situations
I have a good immune system
I had a thought while driving home from work that what I have in both career and education is a specific trade that will always be useful to somebody, no matter where I am or what I am doing. There are two parts to my career: Education and Music. Education, obviously, is enriching my life with some valuable experience through teaching. Trial and error is the best way, if not the only way, that one can really become good at teaching. The second part, Music, for me, is a specific look into the person as a human being; I utilize it much from a philosophical standpoint. I question the usefulness and practicality of human-special subjects of study such as mathematics, language, and science without the other human-special subject of creative art. In fact, for me, I don't only try to answer "What are human beings, where did we come from, where are we going," but I ask, "How can a human being be made better?" I think creative arts (and my specilized music) is a critical factor in this questioning. I challenge our human existence, and I get to have fun while doing it (rockin out at gigs and writing music is fun!). Don't tell me this is never useful.
Being a doctor would be good too, but imagine being specialized in some kind of exotic treatment (i.e. brain surgery, and even that gets more specialized). In a hypothetical civilization colapse such a doctor would not have access to required gadgets and technology that makes his job practical. To be sure, he will have far superior first aid knowledge, and could probably improvise larger-scale medical procedures, but his specialization is not necessarily directly beneficial.
If grand-scale Survivor put me up 1 on 1 with any doctor, I'd probably lose (get voted off), perhaps for an understandable reason. However, even if could not specifically save lives, what are people supposed to be doing while they are alive?
Then you have the corporate marketting strategist. Maybe they say they are... good with people? maybe good at influencing people, or being good at making a pile of horse shit look like an appetizing steak. No thanks. I'd better win survivor if put up against those guys.
