Now into my sophomore year of college, I am learning more and more than I thought I would about life, and especially about music. For the first time I can actually see my professional career developing in front of me; what I am going to be doing post-college, the lifestyle I may lead, the places I may live.
Life is all a journey that we are all experiencing every day, in all of our particularities. Life's all about taking chances and being who you want to be, you know? I came across a quote today that I like very much:
"You can never cross the ocean unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore."
- Columbus
How awesome is that? it's so important to have the guts, to have the courage to do something that you really want. It just puts into perspective what you have to do in order to achieve something that isn't just conventional.
Nowadays I feel like I am doing a decent amount of work in my endeavors. I am excelling in music theory and aural perception, and working through computer science. I am practicing hard and learning my pieces in my piano lessons, and accompanying thoroughly in several capacities: with my Cathedral job, weddings, and more. I have also started teaching again: I now have 7 students at the moment. Teaching is very rewarding, I love it.
Lastly, I've realized how important time management is, and that balance in life is the key to success. It's hard to make choices about when to work and when to play; we kind of have to do things by ear a lot of the time and see how they go. Things are good, though. By the time I make my next entry, I may not even be a teenager anymore (my birthday is November 16th).
Hope all is well!
