Remembering 9/11 From Five Years Ago

Sep 11, 2006 22:48

It's been five years already since that tragic day when the World Trade Centers fell to the ground. I can't believe how long it's been; as my history teacher put it, "It was five years ago, and it was yesterday." It seems so real in our lives, still so present.

I was eleven years old when it happened. It didn't really affect me too much back then, but now I'm realizing more about that unfortunate event. There was a lot on the history channel today about how some outcomes of that day could have changed, like with better government and such, which also got me thinking. What if there was better communication and a better sense of rescue? Could it have made that much of a difference?

You can't deny it, though, there was great heroism on the part of the firefighters, passengers on the planes, and people inside of the buildings that collapsed. The survivor stories are amazing and highly interesting. In history class today we talked about 9/11 for about forty-five minutes and watched a brief news expose. It was starting to get to me.

Apart from that, today was highly mediocre. Derek actually summarized his side of today really well. But for me, I woke up at six-thirty, had jazz band like usual, helped choose menus for chamber retreat, enjoyed a boring physics class in new seats, watched "Three Amigos" in AP Spanish (porque Sr. Ortega no fue allí), and started a project in history.

After school I attended a rehearsal to play recorders at the Renaissance Faire (on September 20th), and at four o'clock Lucas and I drove to Antioch for our jazz quartet rehearsal (our band name is Straightforward). I got home around six, had dinner, talked on the phone, and basically watched T.V. for the majority of the night; it was highly easy-going.

I may get to bed fairly soon, but who knows how late I'll decide to stay up. I'm having a mad texting convo with Wendy right now--it's pretty cool. Other than that, I'm chalk full of nothing more to say; have a good night, y'all.
