Internet Sites That Are Addicting, What's Yours?

Dec 29, 2005 19:08

It's one thing when you're on the Internet for hours and hours and are generally entertained. But it's another thing when you can be on the Internet for a while and actually have things to do. Not gaming, not mindless chat rooms about how 'hot' someone is, or porn.

Things I'm talking about is using logical search engines to look up information much easily attainable via the Internet versus a library; news websites like CNN and the NY Times which will always be important on the Internet; and of course online shopping websites. There's so much out there on it, sometimes it's funny to be so attached to a website.

Think about it: If you're some huge LJ-addict, what did you do before you found out about it and created your journal? To be honest, I can't even recall what I did. As for IMDb, I've actually always had that to do on the Internet because when we first got our computer/modem, I created my account with them.

And for you MySpace-addicts (don't deny it, there are tons of current LJ-ers that use MySpace a whole bunch more now just because), did you just use LJ? Nothing at all? What if next year some person like Tom--the MySpace founder--just invented an entirely new site. Others may diminish in their popularity, but at the same time still retain it with new members.

My point is just a subtle realization I've made tonight, that it's good to have more than just one thing you're addicted to. Since about 5:00 PM when I got home from seeing "The Chronicles Of Narnia" with my family, I've been on IMDb.com, just browsing, searching, and voting in various things. It's been two hours now, and I haven't even touched MySpace today (which sadly, I'm liking more and more), or Amazon.com. As for LJ, I'm kind of always on it here and there.

I'll conclude with a question, tying into my aforementioned thoughts: What sites (besides LJ--obviously, and MySpace--because I don't want to hear that answer for everyone who goes on it, since I know a couple users on here don't ever access it) do you commonly visit? How long have you known about the site? And lastly, is your homepage the site you most frequently visit?
