I'm listening to the sounds that I have recorded on my mp3 player since I got it on 5-17-2005, and it sure does bring back memories in such an explicit way. The first thing that I heard was recorded on 6-13-2005; it was my jazz sight reading class. That was such a good summer 2005 memory, you have no idea. Just being in the environment of college/professional musicians and having that influence on me was such an awesome thing. I am definitely taking it next summer.
I reaquainted with a saxophonist in the LMC Jazz Band whom I had seen at our performances there years before, which was pretty awesome. The pianist that was sight reading alongside me who was going into his senior year at Pittsburg High was truly an inspiration. He was one of the best teenage sight readers I had even met. His usage of jazz chords and application of voicings was impecable and very admirable, he intimidated me so much. It makes me want to get as good as him some day. The drummers in the class, the trumpets and the trombone players all had a few really skilled musicians in their section, which made the class so awesome.
The next thing I heard were some recordings I did on 7-8-2005 at Hume Lake Christian Camp with Golden Hills. That week was such an amazing week, because I made some astounding realizations on my walk with Christ, my friends, my plans for the future, and I just connected in so many ways with the world. Apart from meeting new people, I met
Scotty Leavenworth from one of my favorite shows,
7th Heaven, who's a pretty cool person in real life as well as on the television. The band entitled "
330 Plan" performed each day for our worship and that was definitely something I'm glad I could take a part in.
Finally, the thing I'm listening to right now is from a few days after I originally got my mp3 player: recorded on 5-20-2005, I have a bunch of music from the Don Neely's Royal Society Jazz Orchestra that I saw at El Campanil in Antioch, CA with Derek. That concert was so utterly amazing it's hard to fathom how talented those musicians are. The pianist,
Frederick Hodges, is by far the best jazz pianist I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.
Lao Tizer is a close companion, but Mr. Hodges takes the toll on this one.
It's such a treat to be able to go to have once-in-a-lifetime opportunities like some of the things I've listed above. Though they may be annual, only at certain ages can you appreciate it the most. Other things that I've done in the past under this subject would be attending the Green Day concert on 9-24-2005 and P&L tour: 6-21 thru 6-30-2005. A thing that I'd love to add to this list would to have been to see "Wicked" the musical, but I haven't had the pleasure of seeing that--yet. I'll add that once I see it. Overall, I'm so glad these things have happened to me. They've helped me evolve as a person, and to be able to reminisce like this makes all the difference.
