The Pope and Thomas and Acts 3piano_lady84November 21 2006, 04:25:36 UTC
There is an interesting story about Thomas Aquinas and the Pope that features this passage.
At one time, the Pope called Thomas to him while he was in the Vatican treasury to discuss some issues the church had in refuting the Manichians. While they were conversing, the Pope said, "Look, Thomas," pointing to the vast Vatican wealth, "no longer can Peter say, 'Gold and silver have I none.'" (Popes historically refer to themselves as "Peter.")
Thomas looked around at the treasures in the room and replied, "Truth, Lord, and no longer can he say, "Take up your bed and walk.'"
