I haven't worked extensively with this piece, but I hope I can help. I'm not sure which edition you're working from, but I use a Henley-Verlag Urtext edition. It's perfectly fine (and necessary!) to have breaks in the RH where the phrase marks end, of course, but in the instance (say, right at the beginning) where it's a rather large interval, I think it's totally fine to have a small gap between the chords. I also think the pedal can be used VERY sparingly in some places for effect.
