The day started out gloomily, with rain and a sick husband. Scott and I stayed in bed and watched movies until I reluctantly left for school. Then I ran errands, warming my soul and body with Owl City and a chocolate-coconut latte.
After my last stop, I sat in the bakery parking lot and turned on my car. Abruptly and beautifully, the drizzling rain transformed into giant flakes of snow. Customers hurried out of the bakery and we stood and gaped at the sight...the first real Florida snow since 1988. It was as if the "city of southern charm" had been touched with a wand and transformed into a southern snow globe.
And then I drove home in a swirling white flurry, laughing with delight and wonder.
The snow is still paradoxically falling on the live oaks and camellias, and I am reveling in it, filled with a childish sense of wonder. Such a rare occurrence feels absolutely magical.
