17 1/2 hours into FF13 and I finally have to grind. I think I missed grinding. Dragon Age was far too easy on me.
But... I liked that, too.
And say nothing of the fact that my first Dragon Age play-through was on "casual" .... shh.

Here lies info about FF13 [gameplay], cut for people who don't wanna know )
Oh man, I agree with you on so many levels. I actually liek all of the save points though, because my mom is notorious for being all " HOKAY, SO WE'RE GOING TO DINNER AT GRANDMAS IN 20 MINUTES" or "YOU BEST BE WASHING THE DOG /RIGHT NOW/ OR IMMA YELL AT YOU TILL YOU DO." so It's nice for me to be able to save so often!
But...when it comes to FF, I love to level up like bastard and completely smash my enemies in boss battles, so I was kind of sad that there is no leveling up as far as I can see. And towns!
visiting towns and talking with people was my way of relaxing inside of the game. You fight a bunch of monsters, then go to town and chat it up w/ people about the world's current events. No such thing here. ;_;
It seems like the game really revolves around story and battle with no minigames or sidequests in between. A little sad.
I do like the crystal-upgrading-thingy because it reminds me of FFX's sphere grid... but yeah. I think I miss towns the most so far. I'm only almost past the Vile peaksright now though...so I'm looking forward to how things develop. I hope I'll like the characters more as well; Vanille & Hope are kind of grinding on me. xD

There are sidequests... eventually. I keep hearing about them. Elusive, rare, on the endangered species list... I think they start popping up in the second half of the game.
Vanille & Hope .. argh. Hope matures a bit, it's a very welcome change. I definitely enjoy the crystal upgrading too~ and I'm right there with you on missing towns. You still get to talk to some people and overhear NPC conversations.. but it's just not the same.
