I see your point, but I'd presume that grandma doesn't have much on an MP3 collection. Indeed, if all Nana does is check email and shop for support hose, a Chromebook might work pretty well.

Who is being misled, methinks, are teenagers looking for a cheap laptop to use for school and entertainment. I've seen a lot of complaints about, for example, poor Netflix support in the Chromebook forums. (The other commonly seen complaint is usually something related to the round-about process for printing, but that's a different story.)

Google picked a tough row to hoe with the Chromebooks. Because they ain't laptops, but they sure do look like laptops, ya know? But Google isn't making anything easier on itself by avoiding directly reporting the limitations of the things.

At least the one I have was relatively cheap. Apparently they're bringing out a $1200 model, to compliment the current $300 and $350 ones. I expect they're going to get a hell of a lot more kick-back from people who buy those things, which are in the price range of MacBooks but with not nearly the same level of software polish or function.
