Well, my latest AI idea--the exciting-for-a-PhD one--finally collapsed into a smoldering heap of intractability, as expected. Within the wreckage is another idea which is already well on its way to suffering the same fate, but I'll give it a shot, anyway ( Read more... )

Cool I will have to try this build out.

For the expansion the obvious path to me would be to go 10 RDD but maybe there is a better option...?

Dev crit is probably a waste considering the amount of high CR monsters have crit immunity.

Let me know how it goes.

I think RDD 10 would probably be the best path. Pick up power attack and improved power attack to help deal with those high-DR crit-immunes.

Another issue with dev crit is, monsters who wouldn't drop from the crit damage alone are likely to have saves so high they won't drop to the instakill, either. Besides, being a scythe master is practically like having dev crit, anyway. :D

Any advantage to getting the full PA/CL/GC trio to have in addition to Whirlwind?

Another idea would be to get FB to level 5 and add fighter levels...?

I really want a melee powerhouse character that doesn't rely on buffs too much and can use (UMD) virtually any equipment. I like to stay with Great Sword since it deals damage consistantly. Falchion is OK too but Scythe isn't RP enough for me and a bit too munchkin.

RDD is nice since it eliminates the need to take Blind Fight and a couple of other feats which could be used for something else.

Having ALL of the combat and weapon feats (including epic feats) by 30 would be sweet.

I think whirlwind attack and the cleave line of feats are redundant with each other ( ... )

Yes, the Bard 1/Fighter 4/RDD 10/WM 5 sounds good. Finish off WM to 7 and then 8 into fighter. That's a pretty potent build. Of course there are those on the NWN2 forums that think a cleric combo build or Monk 11/Cleric 9/10 Sacred Fist is the best melee fighter...totally different idea of course but still sounds like it would be pretty potent.

Well, if you can go dual-kama with the NWN2 Sacred Fist PrC, that build will be nearly unstoppable in melee. Throw up Divine Power and Battle Tide for ten attacks per round; go CHA-based and toss up Divine Might and Epic Divine Might (which I've heard will stack).... Sounds like a complete squash-fest.

Druid/monk builds with dragon shape should be pretty scary, too.

Sooo, yeah, things aren't shaping up to be much different then, eh? CoDzillas will still rule the roost. :D

Will have to wait and see what the Sacred Fist PrC looks like for possible builds...probably will build one just for fun. Trying to decide if I should finish NWN2 out with my current chr (Wood Elf Ranger/Fighter dual wielding handaxes) or start a new one. Going to build out a Brd1/Fgt4/RDD10/WM5 to have ready for when MotB comes out (currently right before my bday whoo!) Falchion or Great Sword most likely but possible scimitar as the two handed/sword&shield/dual wield options are cool. I hope that MotB has some better models for scimitars as I find the current ones (as well as short swords) to not be very visually exciting.

Pretty much all the weapon models are either boring or fugly. Some of the scimitar designs are ridiculous--they look more like gnarled tree branches than proper swords. How about that cold iron greatsword? Thing looks like a cricket bat! The falchion gets the dubious honor of "dorkiest overall set of models," with blade choices ranging from "totally tubular ocean curl serration" to "two too many thwacks at an adamantine golem's leg ( ... )

Here is my Ranger 13/Fighter 4 build. This is my current NWN2 OC character (have not yet finished the OC yet) He was built 'on-the-fly' with some RP elements thrown in. By no means is this an optimal TWF build - it's merely how I decided to level up as I played through the OC. I have always been partial to Ranger class characters in all of my playing D&D CRPGs through the years - mostly because of their versatility...and TWF looks cool even if it is technically sub-optimal (even with all the feats) to THF ( ... )

Do you find that you use bows, much? Archery gets a lot of flak in NWN2, but I kept Bishop stocked with acid arrows and he seemed to do pretty well.

Have you found Search to be of much use? ISTR most traps in NWN2 being unavoidable, so it seems a bit of a waste without disable device.

That AC does seem to be on the low end, especially for act 3. I guess it doesn't really matter with stoneskin, though.

What's been the roughest area(s) for your character so far?

I use bows from time to time but not as much now that I have the two +5 hand axes. I have ample stock of elemental dmg arrows and I believe I have all of the best bows that are available in the OC in my arsenal. I also have Bishop use arrows and I agree that he does OK (usually target spell casters first) In hind sight I would have taken two other feats instead of PBS and RS.

Search works well but like you said doesn't do too much without disable device. Usually my guy spots the trap and then Neeshka disables it.

I'll post his full OC with items stats later tonight.

The roughest area for me so far was the warehouse full of invisible thieves.

The warehouse is a rough area for everyone, I think. Have you noticed the AI rogues cheat? They can sneak attack you from any angle, even after you've spotted them. >:(

The concealment of the rogues in the warehouse makes it hard too. Does the Blind Fight feat negate that totally ( ... )

Okay, a couple of things:

First, in case it's not clear, any weapon wielded two-handed gets the 1.5x STR and 2x PA/IPA bonuses. So, scimitars, longswords, katanas, etc., all get those bonuses when wielded two-handed. My Brd 1/Ftr 4/Rdd 10/FB 5 was using a scimitar two-handed with IPA to whack elder elementals for over 50 damage per hit in a training module. (Not bad considering elder elementals have DR 15/-.)

Second, I guess maybe rage and defensive stance could be considered buffs. However, Dwarven Tower is solid without them, and they're circumstantial buffs, anyway; they're not like the CoDzillas' buffs, which are on all the time.

BTW something that I forgot to mention to you previously...

My girlfriend is from Wichita and we were there recently over 4th of July. We visited the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson (highly recommended) and saw the "Keeper of the Plains" where the ArKANSAS river meets the Little ArKANSAS river.

Anyway, thought that you might find that interesting.
