Personal revolution
I thought I would write a little bit this week about why I feel that this is so important, important enough to blog about each week, follow and be committed to in some way. I will get a little personal as it is a very personal issue for me.

As a child I was an average kid, probably a little pudge and then your average kid. In my adult years I steadily gained weight until I was, what most weight indicative sites would term "morbidly obese". It happened gradually but one day, there it was...morbid, fat, lumpy dumpy...big ole me. I shopped plus sizes...think 3-4X.

The turning point came in my doctor's office. I was discussing my blood test results with JG, my GP and it was an open frank discussion. She was worried that I was pre-diabetic as my blood sugar levels were way too high, along with other indicators being of concern. This was the first time a doctor had expressed it in these terms to me. The key tip she gave to me was that this was all controllable with "incremental changes" that individually were not so hard but put together would add up to a lot. I took that idea to heart and began to make some changes. My own personal revolution. She told me to look at the American Heart Association web site, read about diabetic diets and just do it.

Well, I did implement incremental changes...and over the last 5 years, I have lost 55 pounds. I did not do a diet, no program, no drinks, no powders...I applied what I knew about nutrition and studied up and changed the way I viewed food and myself.

-First I cut out Pepsi (and lost 20 pounds!)
-Then I increased my fruit and veggie intake
-Then I cut my complex carb intake (way less bread and pasta)
-I eat breakfast each and every day
-I completely changed my attitude towards cheese. Not a meal but an accent food.
-More veggies, MOAR. You can eat as many veggies as you want really.
-Moderate daily exercise including walking and yoga
-Treat treats as treats.

Anyways. To me this Food Revolution is personal and that is why I am totally for this. I know, that it can work. It has worked for me on a very personal level.

I am going to continue to post about this. I also read other inspirational foodies and I will share that here. This is MY space, my blog and I won't apologize for using this space for my own personal agenda about this.

No one has to read this. But I can post what I want. So hats off to Jamie Oliver for making America mad, making America listen...and maybe...making us eat better and live longer. I feel better than I did before and I am only half way there. I have 55 more pounds to go...but I will do this.

Cheers.
