epic tales of flea market glory

OK, so I think the flea market I went to this past Sunday ended up being the greatest flea market in the history of recorded time. It was so awesome I'm sort of dreading this weekend's flea market because how can it compete? It cannot ( Read more... )

I've never even heard of Tressy until now. She's gorgeous (and perfect for that CinemaScope filter on flickr).

You know, for only one leg that Blythe looks GREAT. Her face looks more matte than the Basaak doll, which is cool (although I still LOVE that high Basaak shine).

two questions:

1. Where do you get Basaak dolls?

2. Do they make black ones?

You can get Basaak dolls on ebay (listed as either Basaak or Blybe)--there's no mass-produced black dolls yet, but a lot of people customize them and make their own black Basaaks or Blythes. Sometimes the customized dolls are available on ebay. There's some flickr groups dedicated to black Blythes & Basaaks, too.

I saw a black Blythe clone once (it wasn't Basaak but some other well known clone whose name I can't remember right now) and I really wanted her but refused to join the ebay bidding war (also I suck at bidding on ebay). So there's def. some other Blythe clones that do have black dolls.

I wish I could find one because I'd have no idea how to make one myself. I was reading last night about all of the steps involved and it was super-intimidating.

I just got an ebay account JUST IN CASE another pops up.

Kenner Blythe faces are great--they're more matte than any of the Takara Blythes, but have a slight translucence to keep things interesting.

I still love Basaak, though. The only bad thing about Basaak is her skin is so pink she makes any doll standing next to her look really jaundiced and sickly.

I'm crazy about Tressy and her BFF Mary Makeup. Goofy magical ponytail aside, they're like real women from the 60s--Tressy's outfits are a lot less fantastical than Barbie stuff from the same time. Plus there's a Tressy outfit called "IN MY SOLITUDE." How cool is that?!
