Fancypants Camera Musings

Aug 19, 2010 01:08

So, my newish camera has a pretty rad setting where you can grab a single shade, and take photographs in black, white, and the selected color only. Rad, right?

A lesson I had to learn the hard way: with color accent, just as it is with hypersaturation, macro close-ups, artificial tilt-shifting, or anything else that recasts a setting in a striking, visually unfamiliar way, it's really easy to take dull photos, draped in dramatic clothing.
Without cracking the lid too far off the worm-can of Why Can't Something Facile And Mass-Produced Be Art And What Is Art Anyway And Oh Hey Can I Crash On Your Couch Tonight, I try to make sure that the technique in question underscores something compelling and deliberate about the photo's composition.

...but hey: I'm just a dude who read a lot reviews before buying his camera. I sincerely encourage you to tell and/or show me how you approach Added Sweeteners.
