As of today, trying other churches to see what other options are out there, and at least to start, I'm running with mainline churches.
My friend Shea maintains that most mainline churches stopped selling fire insurance between 50 and 20 years ago, and are dealing with losing cultural cache and only having members who actually want to build the kingdom.
Which I think is a really interesting and beautiful, if terrifying, process.
Today, I went to an Episcopalian church, and it was fantastic. Oh, the lighting and music were crap, but it was so intensely intentional, focusing on the presence of God, the unity of the church, the immanence of the kingdom...it was delightful.
