Sometimes I can't take life seriously

I suppose the subject states it all quite succinctly, though that would make for a short post.  :)

As it is, I think I'll use one sweeping statement to serve as my political and social climate commentary, not only in Canada, but in North America as a whole.  I know many who are discontent.  I know many who express outrage at foreign policies.  ( Read more... )

"Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off."

Great movie, I loved it, and it does exactly what Hollywood, and the governments, and the business world wants it to do - keep us complacent. We watch as they demolish a Strabucks, and we think "Yeah, fuck Starbucks and the corporate world!" while we buy a Chai Latte and a ginger molasass cookie.

I mean, we get our little rebellion for two hours from a movie that doesn't really want us to revolt, and then we can go back to our daily lives, quoting "you are not your fucking khakis" and think we've done something.

I am Jack's hypocritical world view.

Time to draft a motion to form a commitee to decide in general, open-ended terms what action should be taken at a 'to-be-determined' time in the future eh?

Which ancient world philosopher (from like 300BC or whatever) that stated democracy will last only until those in power realize they can gift themselves riches from the public purse?

I think that was right before the guy who said 'Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.'

hehe, ya those people are right up there with all the people in "great-at-the-time" situations who state: We are different then all the rest.

But they are, aren't they? ;)

After all, in the entire storyline of humanity, we are the first to feel this way and do things this way!
