So I guess I haven't posted in a while or whatever?? I'll just mention a few things.
First thing: I got a lot of great presents for Christmas! Among the best: ten cases of Dublin Dr Pepper (that is, Dr Pepper made with pure cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup). My parents actually drove up to the part of Texas where they sell it in stores (everywhere within a 44-mile radius of Dublin) to get it for me ;w;!!
Second thing: I TOTALLY MISSED THE INAUGURATION. I-I thought it was going to happen in the evening!! oAo I youtube'd it later, though. Besides, I was too busy being at the dentist to have watched it live, even if I had known it was going on. :x
Third thing: My granddad passed away Wednesday morning. His health had been failing for a while, and he was able to die peacefully with all his children around him. As a sickly teenager, he was told by a doctor that he wouldn't make it to twenty, and it's taken seventy years for the "screw you" to finish loading. He managed to live long enough to achieve his last major goals--to vote for Barack Obama, and then to see his inauguration--but not so long that he was forced to move in with my aunt Izzy and her obnoxious husband Doug.
Obviously, it hasn't hit me yet at all. I guess 'denial' can last a while. :|
Still, thoughts and prayers (especially for my grandmom, my mom, and the other kids) are always appreciated.
Other crap:
I've finally gotten around to watching Avatar straight through instead of just catching a few episodes here and there; I'm almost to the end of season 2, so here is the requisite
unordered list of my thoughts thus far:
- Zuko is moe
- Season 2 Katara is a huge bitch
- Ty Lee's measurements are apparently 36-15-36
- I really like the way everyone, including elite soldiers/special forces/etc., sucks ass compared to any named character.
- wait, did I type "really like"? because I meant to type "can barely stand"
- Although it is really cute the way they always show Zuko beating legions of NPCs to re-establish that he is totally a badass even though he constantly loses to every other main character!
- Zuko and Azula's mom is addicted to painkillers
- Azula is magnificent
- Apparently Appa was the source of Aang's Jesus mojo, because he stopped being Jesus as soon as Appa was kidnapped.
- Iroh is the new Jesus.
- It really irritates me when Zuko's fucked-up ear is drawn looking normal!
- I shat bricks when the owl librarian debuted.
- His completely non-creepy voice spoiled the effect, though... :(
- I find it hard to believe that Jet reformed, given that he didn't seem the least bit repentant or as though he'd learned anything at the end of his debut episode. (The fact that everybody condemned his actions by more or less saying "H-hey! Good guys shouldn't do bad things! STAY GOOD!!" instead of ever making the obvious argument that he was about to do to every kid in the valley the exact same thing the Fire Nation had done to him might have contributed to the fact that he never appeared to "get it.")
- Of course, I guess his subsequent actions of Fighting the Powah, stalking, and making a scene don't really necessitate his actually having reformed.
- underwater silhouettes of Unagi and the Serpent's Pass monster = nightmare fuel. :(
- After they leave the Northern Water Tribe, Team Avatar heads for Omashu so Bumi can teach Aang earthbending... why didn't it occur to anyone to ask Bumi to teach him anything when they were there in the first season? They didn't seem to be dead-set on his learning the elements in order, since Aang immediately asked what's-his-face (the exiled Fire Master guy) to teach him.
- The guy was like "I had heard that some of the Water masters had healing abilities!" when Katara miraculously and for no reason gains healing powers, but then when they reach the north pole, it turns out that... healing is just a normal, everyday part of what Waterbenders can do?
- Okay, so the system was deeply flawed, unfair, sexist, etc. but seriously, Katara, screw you for that "whatever, who the hell would want to learn a dumb skill like HEALING anyway!!" attitude. ... Although, given that NOBODY GETS HURT IN AVATAR (except when it's a Plot Point, at which time everyone is always duly shocked and appalled) even though everyone's throwing rocks and fire and shit at each other all the damn time, I guess I should sympathize with her feelings a little more.
- ...Seriously, though, her entire objection was portrayed as "Girls should be able to fight too, RAR!" And that's a fair point. But the fact that men never learned to heal is an equal and opposite injustice/stupidity, and nobody ever pointed it out.
- ...of course, once again, NOBODY GETS HURT IN AVATAR. so... whatever, carry on.
- Katara's difficulty with waterbending (and envy of Aang's natural talent) rang really true and was, y'know, interesting. But then they get to the north pole, and she... masters it in two days and never has any trouble again. WEAK SAUCE. B|
- I LOL'd when she was all "See you later, Pakku! Give my regards to the woman who SPURNED YOUR LOVE AND ABANDONED YOU 8D!" though.
- I used to hear people talk about Avatar characters before I ever watched or knew anything about it, and apparently the result of that is that I'm always accidentally calling Sokka "Zuko" and Azula "Katara." (I never call Zuko "Sokka," though, nor is Katara ever Azula.)
- Wow, episode, you just showed the heroes abandoning a dude to die in the sinking library! Would you like to deal with that at all? ...No? Well, okay. :B
- Who the hell makes insulting remarks to the faces of complete strangers on the street? Wouldn't most normal people at least wait until they'd passed and then giggle/deride the complete strangers amongst themselves--possibly so that the complete strangers overhear, but not by design (at least not overtly)? This isn't a movie set at a high school, ladies!
- Toph is a badass though.
- Does Ty Lee have X-ray vision, or does she just assume that guys in big robes are muscle-y?
- I like Sokka even though apparently I have nothing to say about him!
- George Takei has such an awesome voice. Too bad his character was just a Monster of the Week.
- okay, so the fortuneteller looks at the clouds and predicts that the volcano will not erupt. Later, Aang and Sokka climb to the volcano and discover that it is, in fact, on the verge of erupting. So instead of telling what they've learned to the fortuneteller, they... sneak into her house, steal the book that explains what different cloud shapes mean, manipulate the clouds into the "Volcano Is Erupting" shape, and have her come interpret the clouds again. For god's sake, kids! What the hell is wrong with you?
- Dug the "Oh, yeah? Well, can your science explain why it rains?" "YES! YES IT CAN!" exchange, though.
- I love badger-moles and pig-chickens and pig-cows and pig-sheep and wolf-bats and urban panthers and flying bison and winged lemurs and cat owls and pentapus and that horrible adorable smell monster that the bounty hunter chick had and sea lion turtles and also all the other adorable cuddly animals!!
- Okay, I can't think of anything else right now!!
Go through the list and check off the titles you have watched. For our purposes, "watching" a title means that for TV and OVA series, you have to have seen at least one episode. For one-shots, you have to have seen the whole thing. At the end of each genre/category, add up your sub-total. At the very end, add up the sub-totals to come up with your grand total. If your grand total is 80 or over, congratulations -- you are an obsessive anime watcher!

and I miss being an obsessive anime watcher by 15 titles! go me?
lol @ fruits basket under comedy/parody and yakitate!! japan under drama. ¦D (and .hack//SIGN under 'action/adventure'. MOAR LIKE 'conversation/standing around' AMIRITE.)
Also, old list is ooooold. Other than Ouran, I don't think there's a single title on here that came out after 2005. ._.
Final thought: Is there anything more insufferable and masturbatory than poems about poetry?
