Bad download: Microsoft's Desktop Search toolbar. Ooh, it sounded useful at the time - do keyword searches of all your files and e-mails - but now it won't stop prompting me

Maybe you should try Google Desktop instead of Desktop Search? It will also search everything on your computer and your e-mails. I had it for a while and it's very unobtrusive. It just sits on your taskbar and waits for you to type in something.

Yet another reason to get a Mac - their search tool (spotlight) just sits there in the top right corner waiting for you to need it.
