It seems I've been called out by
a friend for meme action. Here goes.
1) Total number of books owned:
Here in Toronto, I have about 20. In Ottawa, the Evan's Room Collection contains an additional 100 or so books, not to mention the general Annett Reference Library (Stittsville Branch) of some 150 more.
2) The last book I bought?
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, by Mark Haddon.
3) The last book I read?
I recently finished reading Zero Tolerance: Hot-Button Politics at Canada's Universities by Peter Emberley (the founder of the College of Humanities, incidentally). I'm now in the process of reading the first volume of Lawrence Martin's biography of Jean Chretien.
4) Five books that mean a lot to me?
1. The Nicomachean Ethics by Aristotle. (It is from there, incidentally, that this blog got its name - phronetic is the Anglicized adjective of phronesis, one of Aristotle's five intellectual virtues.)
2. The entire Discworld series.
3. The Human Condition by Hannah Arendt.
4. The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli.
5. The Canadian Oxford Dictionary. Second edition, biatch.
I hereby call on
you,
you,
you,
you and
you to pick up the meme.
