So I had a visit from the man and he brought my stuff and more work. I'm taking an 'ignore and see' approach to the work, but
So the night my after the man brought my packages I had a huge visit that we had arranged practically a month in advance. I had all of the teachers from my daughters' school, yup, that's right, two dozen Dominican nuns! So that was actually fun, it really was, and they seemed to have a blast. Needless to say, nuns don't get out a lot. But the whole time, I was thinking about my new pedals, lonely in their box, screaming for attention.
So after they left and after dinner and outside in the dark and the mosquitoes, I installed my new pedals and I put the cleats on my shoes and I took a test ride. And I didn't fall down! Actually, I found that clipping out of clipless pedals is actually really easy and they certainly are everything they're cracked up to be; they rock! The real problem for right now is getting into them. I can't feel the cleat on the bottom of my foot so I can't find the right spot to clip in at. I hope this will get easier with practice.
And my helmet is pretty cool too and I'm happy in spite of all the wait and it really is a nice helmet. It seems like they must have run out of the one I ordered because it was supposed to be a white 2005 model (thinking it would coordinate with Rhonda's paint) but it turned out to be a gunmetal grey 2006 model; fine. No complaints. It's a Giro (same brand Lance Armstrong wears, I think) Indicator (a mountain model and therefore not the exact helmet Lance Armstrong wears (oh well)).
And I've barely gotten my new PDA out of the box. I managed to salvage my addresses from my old one but that's it. That's okay, that was the main thing I wanted. And I'm pretty happy with my new PDA too. It's tiny and hard to read but it's very pocket sized and a little sexy. It kind of reminds me of an ipod. It's the Palm Z22, for the purist in me. PDA's have actually evolved quite a bit too. The graffiti writing has changed and it now has a feature to remind me about people's birthdays. One thing I like is that the calendar can switch time zones and it includes a world clock. That's a feature that I've needed for a long long time. So far my only criticism is that it only comes with a 110V charger. If I want the 110 / 220 version it costs extra. I'll think about that later.
And my bike computer that I got for such a steal is still in its box. It really wants to be installed on Rhonda, but it really needs a couple hours of my undivided attention and I'm trying to finish up this weeks work, pack for vacation, and make arrangements to that I don't fail my classes this semester all at the same time. I'm friggin' buried! I can't believe I'm actually heading south tomorrow! I've got another big visit tomorrow night and for now the plan is to leave right afterward and drive most of the night. Don't ask me what I'm doing posting to LJ. I usually wouldn't in circumstances like this.
And sure enough, the only real letdown was the bike tool I won on e-bay. First of all I'm not impressed by it but also, it's missing its 9mm socket! I haven't even gotten around to contacting the guy I won it from or leaving him feedback. In light of all that's going on and the fact that it only cost 5 quid and the fact that Rhonda has no 9mm hex heads on her, I may just let this one go.
Could someone please slow the world down just a little?
