In which I do my first MTB event and remove a fair portion of hide from my body

I haven't had internet access at home since July 2nd. I'm experiencing withdrawal symptoms which probably shows that I spend way too much time with the compie. This should be fixed in a day or two.

I went camping with friends on the 4th of July. There are no Fireworks on the 4th of July in France. It's the way it is. I drank much beer and smoked a cigar which was probably a bad idea because:

5th of July we had a surprise birthday party for a friend. I got to bed at 2AM, woke up at seven for:

Yesterday (6 July) I went on the longest MTB ride of my career. It was a "rally"; kind of a race except that there are no winners or losers. 67.67 km. I think it's fair to say that that's about 130 km of road cycling. We signed up for 55km. As an aside, I learned when I used to run cross country in high school that the people who make the trail never make distance errors on the short side, only on the long side. I'm okay today, not too much muscle fatique related pain. The only problem is that I crashed in the 19th km yesterday and I scraped a good portion of skin off of the right side of my body; shoulder, arm, elbow (especially), hip, knee (especially), and somehow, both ankles and both calves. I also broke my helmet and riding glasses which now must be replaced.

I'm in a lot of pain and it's not fair, but that's giving me a headache. Another not-fair thing is that I must work. Life is made thusly. This too shall pass, but I wish it would pass faster.

Rhonda (reminder: that's my bike) sustained a blow to the front wheel which will require the replacement of a couple of spokes and some re-alignment. For some reason, her saddle makes a horrendous creaking noise now; I'll have to look into that as soon as I feel up to it / find a little time. When I have time, I'll probably look back on this as having been fun.
