okay, so it's been a little while; lots has happened...well, BIG things have happened, anyway, lol!!
let's see...did i mention my projects for dawn, earlier? (i have NO idea what i last posted because i am too lazy right now to go back and look, LOL...) in case i didn't, in very brief: she wanted me to make (crochet) a shawl for her for valentine's day, and a sweater for her for st patrick's day :) the shawl was a snap, but i was (and am still, slightly) a little nervous about the sweater...i'm down to the wire now, and i -just- got the buttons for it today!! so i'll be hooking like mad for the next week or so, lol!! but it's almost done, so it shouldn't take -too- long. :)
annnnnnnnnnnd...WE MOVED!! into a new house that's got stuff wrong with it, but it's SO much better than the shithole we were in!! we moved last wednesday (2/27), and it's actually been a nightmare; this was all pretty sudden (well, okay, we had 2 months to plan, pack, AND find a house!!), so we had to have the movers pack most things. BAD IDEA. very few things are where they should be and we're hunting like mad. we're going to -have- to pare the quantity of stuff down, lol...the biggest hassle has been the owners of the PREVIOUS house...he doesn't want to give back the security deposit, and because the realtor has busted him on everything he's complained about so far, NOW he's resorting to outright LYING! so we had to prepare a formal statement, citing the things wrong with the house when we moved in, that we didn't push to be fixed (almost all of which were[was?] brought to the attention of the realtor as we found them) and my mom basically is going to have to threaten litigation if this guy doesn't shut up and give it up!! his most incredible lie so far has been that a neighbor told him we had pets, a cat and a dog!! *insertscreamhere*!! it's infuriating. it wouldn't be so bad, i guess, but we were counting on that security deposit to pay the movers and the rest to go to the deposit on -this- house. so it's a little touchy. the lady who owns the moving company (locals) has been aware as things have progressed, and has been very understanding and patient. but it's still infuriating.
my grandad died on the 13th of february. he was 92. i wasn't -close- to him, but he was my first father-figure; my grandparents raised me til i was 5 (mom was navy, and home as often as she -could- be). he and my gramma had been divorced since 1980; he got remarried. my gramma lived about a 10 minute drive from him in south florida (until gram had to move 2 years ago), so at some holidays, he and his wife would have gramma over for family dinners, lol...he was great :) he was kind of little, as a result of polio as a child (which also crippled one of his hands, which was barely usable), and kind of scrawny, so i never had a grandad who was terribly active, lol...but he was handy with tools; when he and my gramma had a family at home, he built furniture, and was sort of a jack-of-all-trades. he worked for eastern airlines til about 1975, and received a nice pension when he retired, before eastern folded. and he had a wicked sense of humour!! he loved gadgety-things; one of his favorites was a little rc suv that my mom got him for his birthday several years ago; he played with it til the motor died, LOL!! and he loved funny things, like the singing bass (i got him the lobster version for his birthday this past year, and glenna (his wife) said he LOVED it, and would play it often and just CACKLE!! LOL) i love him :) his ashes will be buried in georgia with his mother and brother. i am so sad that my mom wasn't able to be down there with her sisters at his side. he went quietly in his sleep, from complications from double pneumonia. ***NOTE TO KIDS: NEVER TAKE UP SMOKING!!!*** his name was albert eugene thurman. he is missed :)
i guess not much else can top that, so i'll tell you about sueanne and other gossip next time, boys and girls ;))
