I'm really glad my doctor finally called me back today. It's been 5 or 6 days since I ran out of my last medication and, I know that she can't help that she was on vacation and unavailable to help until she got back, she's been back since Monday and even 3 days is a long time without an SSRI.
So anyone who wonders what I've been doing lately can read this handy guide on
SSRI Discontinuation Syndrome.
The following criteria define the SSRI /SNRI withdrawal syndrome:
Two or more of the following symptoms develop within 1 to 10 days of discontinuation:
(a) dizziness or light headedness
(b) nausea and/or vomiting
(c) headaches
(d) lethargy
(e) anxiety and/or agitation
(f) tingling (paresthesias), numbness or "electric" shock-like sensations in the head or limbs
(g) tremors
(h) sweating
(i)insomnia
(j) irritability
(k) vertigo (dizziness)
(l) diarrhea
As Wikipedia describes them, the brain shocks are my personal favorite:
Symptoms described as "brain zaps", "brain shocks," "brain shivers" or "head shocks", are a
withdrawal symptom experienced during discontinuation (or reduction of dose) of SSRI drugs. The symptoms are widely variable in description and of unknown etiology;
[8] common descriptions include
dizziness, electric shock-like sensations, sweating, nausea, insomnia, tremor, confusion, and
vertigo.
[8][7] The preferred medical terminology for the symptoms is
paraesthesia.
