Weekend crash, baby!
Peace guys, my obsession with hawt girls is over. Relax.
I feel I should write about my third weekend here at Brown. So far, I've had a very good time. I'm getting used to living independently and growing closer to my friends. I love meeting new people and talking to them. I'm getting less nervous when initiating a conversation. It's great. I think this is truly the education I need.
So, yesterday, I went to the Rhode Island Mall with two of my friends to check out Wal-Mart. We rode the public transport... it was about 45 minutes, and I hated every minute of it. The bus was cramped with people, hot, sticky, and just downright uncomfortable. I thought I had mastered American society when I got used to Brown, but turns out that the university was just another sheltered place like NEHS and Taiwan. The real world starts where the boundaries of familiarity end.

We walked a long time before arriving at the mall from the bus stop. Like three vagabonds, we wandered the streets, dodging cars and talking about old times. We then shopped for household appliances, utensils, stationary, and food. We stayed about 3 hours and tried to catch a bus back to Providence. This is where things got interesting...
Before the bus came, one of my friends made a dash to the restroom. When the transport finally came, my other companion and I boarded first and paid our fare. "We have another friend coming," we told the driver, "Can you wait for just a moment?"
The bus driver replied curtly, "We're on a schedule." And promptly closed the door and drove off. We were like WTF... Thus, we had to get off on the first stop and make our way back to the mall again to pick up our friend. We had fun badnaming the driver later on.
I was late to the Fellowship meeting and missed the sermon, but the peeps invited me to RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) to play some games and chill out. I accepted and went along. I played a PS2 game called Guitar Hero and got completely pwned by Shiara, a senior at RISD. She had 10x my score. A friend challenged me later... and I lost again! Well, I did get to play chess that night! (Yay! All wins!) I had a great time. When I got back, I hung around in the Lounge and talked to some of my dormies.
More people arrived, and we started playing a board game called "Loaded Questions." It was total fun-ness. We were laughing our heads off, and the game lasted until 2:30 AM in the morning, at which point I could not stand it anymore and retired to bed.
TODAY!
I finally got my cellphone today! It's Cingular on a prepaid plan of $25. I went to the mall today with Renata, a dormie, who wanted to get a pair of glasses. And she did get a pair... which cost around $380 USD!! (Crazy!) She was so exicted to get her glasses and was practically jumping up and down the way back. (I kinda was too, cuz I GOT A CELL PHONE! W00t!) We ate lunch together at the food court and tried to find a cake for Milan's birthday.
Milan is a also one of our dormies; she's in PLME (the 7-year med program) and very nice. We wanted to give her a surprise for her birthday, so everyone threw in a few dollars for a party. Unfortunately, Renata and I didn't find a good cake, and we headed back. I did some homework and chatted with friends in the afternoon.
During the evening, 8:00 PM, we all hid in the lounge and waited for Milan to come back. We had set up the whole party, with drinks, snacks, chips, two home-baked cakes, which was a unit collaboration. We had set up music too!
And when Milan came... we all popped out of our hiding places and give her a pleasant fright (oxymoron?). We sang happy birthday, ate cake, and danced! We partied like craaaazzzzy! There are some serious swing dancers here!

Yep! That was kinda it. I'm glad we all were able to do something for each other like this. It's only been 3 weeks, and our unit feels like family. :)
Anyways... long post. Gotta do some homework now! Man, what a blast! W00t! Hope ya guys are having fun too!
