It was a nice day in Olivine City, so Cocona decided to go to the beach that was bordering the city. She held Kuro, her pikachu, in her arms despite the weight; she had gotten used to it by now and who knows? It probably made her have better arm strength. But as she looked ahead, there were lots of people on the beach as expected, but she didn't really care, not today. She didn't come to the beach to have fun.
Cocona walked past the ones who were having fun to the place where there were more rocks instead. She didn't bother to ask her Pokemon to use Rock Smash on them to get them out of the way, but rather, she climbed and sat on top of one. There were even trainers who stopped by and asked for a battle even though they could clearly see Cocona's face of definitely not being in the mood. However, they insisted, only in result to becoming completely annihilated by Kuro alone-- even those Gravelers and Sandslashes. She didn't even want to switch out her Pikachu and it wasn't because of confidence, not today.
Not today.
After defeating the fourth trainer, Kuro hopped back onto Cocona's side on the boulder she was sitting on. Yes, she didn't even hop off the rock she was sitting on while battling. In fact, all Cocona did was mutter several words and Kuro listened, vanquishing her opponents one by one.
"Pi?" Kuro tilted her head, looking up at Cocona. Kuro wasn't dumb enough to not sense the atmosphere of her trainer and looked pretty concerned, complete with its sad face. Cocona put her hand on Kuro and the Pikachu nuzzled into her hand. Well, this was some kind of comfort that Cocona appreciated.
"Hey, Kuro..." Cocona whispered, looking out to the ocean ahead of her. "Do you miss playing with Jinjing?"
Kuro stopped nuzzling into Cocona's hand, gently pushed it away, and stared at her trainer, slowly nodding in the process. Chu..."
"Yeah, he was like your best friend, wasn't he? Maybe we can find Jinjing in the wild one day. I didn't hear about him being sent to another trainer and all." Cocona bit her lip as she withdrew her hand and brought her legs closer to her chest, putting her chin on top of her knees. The ocean seemed endless, but she knew that there was something out there, Cianwood, that was waiting to be explored by the foreigners of Johto.
That was the entire point of her going on a journey. That was reason why she wanted to leave Goldenrod City with Rorona. That was the reason why she wanted to find out whether the rumor was true--
It was the reason why Teacher sent her out on a journey.
Right?
Now that she thought about it, she remembered her first sparring match with him. As time passed, he taught her so many things and she was definitely not worried about never fighting ever again in Johto as long as she had some sort of sparring partner, and of course, a teacher who could help her do many things. Cocona thinks that nobody else would take his place.
Cocona sighed. People who go will eventually come back, right? Yeah, this has been proven; she has seen it. They sometimes appear with or without memories and it confuses Cocona as to whether she should still hope, or--
Or...
Or?!
--Wait, now that Korea was gone, that means the Sentai Squad had no leader. She called him "Leader Blue" for a reason. If the leader was gone, then... what should she do?
Cocona looked over to Kuro to hold her like a life-sized doll for comfort, but Kuro disappeared. She wasn't there anymore. She was gone--
Oh, Cocona found Kuro behind the boulder she was sitting on... who was digging through her bag. Cocona sighed, wondering if Kuro had gotten hungry again.
"Can't you wait until we go back to the i-"
And there was silence as Kuro held out an egg from Cocona's bag. It was an all-too familiar yellow and black--
A Pichu egg.
"Pika pi!" Kuro squeaked, proudly holding her egg to Cocona. For this, Cocona stepped down from the rock and stared at the egg and then at Kuro.
"You... want me to find another owner, Kuro?" Cocona's voice was close to breaking down to whimpers, but held her breath when Kuro shook her head. "No? You want me to keep it?"
Kuro gently let the egg down on the soft sand and pointed her own hand to herself, then grabbed her tail and tried folding down the curves at the end.
"You want a boy Pichu?"
Kuro nodded, but then... had a frown.
"... Jinjing?"
"Pika!"
It took a while before grins were on both of their faces.
