nerding

i'm excited. my bestest friends (english majors) will be watching a grepa movie later, "you got me". this will serve as the compensation for so many restless nights, but  F. we don't have the ethos to make this a grand victory party thingy since we're not even half- way done with our baby thesis. boohoo.

i can't imagine that life as an english major could get as messy as this. for those who've been updated reading my blogspot, i thought that i'm into a very easy, manageable course. but now, i'm having second thoughts.

english 119 (english discourse) is killing me. for the past two weeks, i've not had even just a decent sleep, since i've greatly reduced my sleeping time to 5:30 am. downloading stuff about my topic isn't nice, especially when i notice that there is not much to download.  good thing the Social Sciences Library is reliable, unlike the library of my own college. now i'm agreeing with
stresstabs. the Social Sciences Library is amazing, way too amazing than CAL's.

this is my topic, which upds members could find interesting. well, i'll be asking them for data, so i've got to make up things for them in on way or the other hahaha. "An Analysis of the Discourse Strategies used by College Debaters in Face- Threatening Acts". i've been nerding myself a lot reading Erving Goffman and his sociological theories, just to be able to find out from where he got his concept of the "face", and as well got so many books on Linguistic Purism and Interactional Sociolinguistics. and when everything seems to fail (like not being able to find the books that i need), i have noam chomsky's minimalist program to read.

up to now, i have only done a single revision on my topic proposal. i'll be passing the revised one later, and i know that my professor would make me do another revision. but still, that would be better just for the sake of beating the deadline.

i still have to record debates, transcribe them, analyze them, make a thesis, compile every data, and have it hard bound. and yes, three weeks left. and this isn't my only subject for this semester. i wonder if i could ever come out of this subject alive.

thanks to coffee way for being very reliable, the confidant of our group when everything seems to be spoiled. and yes, coffee way is a great venue for star complex attitudes.

i can't imagine life as an english major without this.
