What do you do with a BA in English?

Jun 03, 2009 03:00

I've been too lazy to blog about a lot of things. I didn't blog about my college graduation, university graduation, PIDC, AUDC, and even the hassle of the thing called "bureaucracy" which I think is just legitimised corruption anyway. As I told  celeni last time, I blame Plurk for stealing me from "real blogging" (and in no way am I making patol to her problematising of what real "blogging" is anyway, I'm so over na with my thesis LOL).

But I thought of blogging about employment. Not just because it matters, but because I want to prove people that I can be employed too, even if I'm an English major. And that you can do something with a BA in English. (Kahit nagtuturo ako, eh gusto ko eh, so kebs mo!).

I got accepted as Instructor 4 in the Department of English and Comparative Literature in UPD, which was yeah, my department. I'm not really talking about it much yet, cos I haven't signed the contract and I haven't even seen the appointment letter yet, so the pessimist in me still thinks that it might not be true yet. Haha. But since Ate Sanie already told me that everything's already okay and that I just have to wait for my TCG's (True Copy of Grades) release on Thursday, I consider it a go already.

The feeling's actually amazing. Before, I used to just drop my final papers in the dropbox at the window of the Department, but just today, I already saw that one of the pigeonholes inside has a "VITORIO" sticker on it. And today, I was also informed that I have an FC Room already. It's Room 1066, which means I'd be roommates by Mr. Richmon Pancho (YAY Monmon!) and Mr. Alex Maximo (my thesis critic). I'm not really going to stay in that room so much, I predict, since I'd rather go home and bring home the paper work with me. LOL. But you get the point. Masaya ang feeling.

And of course, the biggest news that I received today is my schedule for the next semester. I'll be handling four classes next sem: 3 English 1 (Basic College English) classes and 1 English 11 (Literature and Society) class. And for fun, I'm posting my sched here (f-locked naman eh, so hindi ako nagppromote to strangers LOL).

English 1          THR1            8:30-10:00       PH138
English 1          THW4           1:00-2:30         CAL 510
English 1          WFW5          1:00-2:30          PH440
English 11        WFY             4:00-5:30          PH121

Comments:
1) The schedule's okay, although not ideal. It's quite broken, but I realised it's a good thing so I can prepare for the next class.
2) Ang aga magsstart ng TTH ko, keri. Haha. 8:30AM! Although to be fair, never yata ako nawalan ng 7:00AM class sa UP. But the point is, I am always late.
3) Good thing there's a form of order naman in my schedule--- the 1:00-2:30 English 1 sched. Medyo stress, kasi parang uulitin ko lang lahat ng sinabi ko sa Tuesday sa Wednesday class. Then again, masaya sya itry.
4) YES, wala akong English 10. I wanted to teach English 10 since freshman year, simply because it's really a course that tests one's determination and perseverance! LOL. Surprisingly, I'll be teaching English 11, which is also a very interesting subject since it's Literature and Society (and I really enjoyed my English 11 when I was still a student).
5) Medyo weird ang rooms ko. Two of my rooms are just a step away from heaven, the other one is just a little closer to AS than PHAN, and the other one has water pipes inside. HAHA. Exercise ito.

I checked CRS and I think the assignment of instructors there is not updated yet. Two of my classes are assigned to different instructors, so I dunno what's going to happen.

At oo, tama ka. Wala pa ako sa CRS. That's why I made this for fun:

Kelan kaya ako lalabas sa CRS? Hahaha. Pero oo, class ko yan.

For now, I have to sleep so I can wake up early morning tomorrow to start working on my English 11 Reading List.
