Lourdes

Friday: I trained my kids with Anarod, and it was a last-minute training session for the two teams that we sent to IDEA. Anarod tagged herself along with me cos she was desperate to complete her training hours (cos seriously, would a sane person go to Lourdes which is 1 hour away from UP just to help me train? LOL), and so I introduced her to my kids.

When I entered the OLD CORS Room (the debate room), a scribble at the whiteboard captured my eye. One of them wrote:

"Sa MSU na ako mag-aaral. HAHAHA."

While I was having snacks at the store beside Lourdes and while we were prepping for a debate, Martin passed by. And this was the convo:

Me: Martin, bakit hindi na kita nakikita?
Martin: Sorry, Sir. May training po ba ngayon?
Me: Yup. But it's an IDEA training. But I want you to attend it if you're free.
Martin: Sige po. Pero may ihahatid lang po ako.

(Martin leaves)

Anarod: Raymund, sino siya? Cruuuuuush koooooo siya.

Conclusion: Babae talaga si Anarod. :))

Saturday: IChA was like a treasure; you really have to look for it. It took us almost an hour just looking for it in Paranaque. LOL. We even spent more than 20 minutes inside the subdivision just looking for the school itself. I'm just so thankful that the organisers were so kind to us despite arriving v late. Thanks, thedecipherer ! And of course, thanks to all the UPDS people who constantly gave us directions.

Seeing a lot of college debaters was the best reward for going to any high school tourney. Kip even adjudicated one of my kids, and he always reminded me of my kids' argument that "homosexuals spread STDs" that's why they don't like Prop 8. LOL.

My kids didn't break though. I'm a bit disappointed because first round was supposed to be "the easy round" (compared to the other two rounds) but they forgot what it is. Migs said, "Sir, namention nyo sa training na imatterload namin, but we forgot". LOL. But I'm more than happy that they didn't get donuts for all the rounds, as they ended with 4 and 3 points naman. I think it's a good start for a first-timer anyway.

Just after the rounds, I already knew that they won't break since I already asked Carlito and Tina of the Round 5 results. But of course, I wanted them to experience the pain of not hearing their team names from the break announcement, so as to motivate them to matterload and train even harder. Experiencing that in PIDC 1 made me realise how important training really is, and I wanted them to realise that too. Especially the Seniors since some of them are considering college debating.

But the biggest failure of my coaching life is my inability to convince them to go to UPD. I know how superficial their reasons are and that these are very easy to rebut if it were just a debate, but I just can't make them realise what they'll be missing.

After IDEA, I went out with Kip, Jesus, Jayson, Gian, and Joel at Tomato Kick. TK is love. Really.

Sunday: I wasn't able to wake up on time for IDEA 3, so I had to turn down the persuasion of Jayson and Kip to go and adj. I thought it was God's way of telling me to remember that I have a family, and that I need to spend time with them. LOL.

I made my kids watch the 2 Girls 1 Cup video, and I super loved their reactions.

Here's the reaction of my kid who's closest to me:

Raymund Vitorio (2/1/2009 11:19:53 PM): that was a hit in youtube before it was banned

I just love my Lourdes kids. Maybe that's the reason why I'm still not quitting despite the stress. Too bad everything has to end in February.
