After being recognized as the Alta Challenge Survivor, I'm now back in the chaotic streets of Manila, where everyone can be a suspect for a crime. One thing I liked best about Davao is that it seems so peaceful that walking on the grepa overpass from Alta to Gaisano seemed so safe, at least if you compare it to the grepa Philcoa overpass. The cheap prices were another incentive, ranging from the 23-peso 1-piece chicken meal to the 129-peso asian massage to the 10-peso trikes and to the 67-peso meal at Edongs. At least we've got something that would compensate for the very costly tournament that we had to attend (it's still a tourney after all the stress).
Alta Pension for the win! Before I went to Davao, I was expecting we'd be staying in a "nice" place, since people chose it over Chateau Veronica. When I rode the cab from the airport, I just said "Sa Alta Pension po" and the drivers knew it. So I thought it was such a nice place that everyone knows. But when the cab driver said that we were already in Alta, I was just SHOCKED to see the place. Haha. But as Jowee said, we don't have the right to complain since we just paid 2,300 pesos for our 8-day stay in Alta. But it was "so fucking grepa" (Magat, 2008). We were lucky enough to have been allocated to the best room in Alta, but that "best room" is not exempt from aircon, electric fan, and toilet mishaps. Good thing this year's toilet mishaps didn't remain anonymous, as compared to last year's tragedy of the unknowns (although Jonjon says "Mitch" already admitted that s/he was the culprit). Our room was the perkiest room, and no one can contest that. We have Anabelle Rama, the owner of the purple stroller, the Channel N host, the Keller that speaks more than monologues, the irate Nanay, and the Mataray na Lolo. Ibang level talaga.
The tournament was generally okay, very efficient. Rounds ended early, and the tab was never delayed. Except for the Octos day but that was understandable, since that was very crucial. Socials were okay, but they were not the most ideal ones. If anything, I appreciate the surprises like the Costume-Making contest and the Pansit and Puto during the Opening "Shindig", the oldie band during the Break Night, and the Lechon during the Championship Dinner.
The rounds were okay. Although I agree with most people when they say that the motions were a bit weird this year (like debating about South Africa?! haha), I still think that this NDC was a perfect "learning experience" (Arcellana, 2006). Although I developed a few issues during the tourney, I'm proud to say that I'm so over them now. Good thing Jowee knew how to condition my mind not to think of those things during the rounds. And even though Jowee and I both had apprehensions about our team before NDC, I'm already happy enough to see that we were indeed a good team. Quarters is not bad (ayan, okay na, masyado na akong maraming naiyak dito). Thanks, Jobet!
Oh, before I forget, Samal Island was cool! Although masakit talaga sa katawan abutin ang Sirenea, kahit ikaw pa ang Sirena ng Dadiangas, Sirena ng SM North, o Sirena ng Balara. :))
Oh well, napapagod na ako. Ito nalang:
TK tomorrow, 8PM. Text me, Claire, or Norman if you have questions. Marami ng pupunta so wag na magpacute na "pupunta ako pag pupunta sina chever". Sampalin ko mga keller nyo jan eh.
(NDC pics to follow.)
