I first saw the
Singapore Flyer the day I arrived in Singapore, when I was on a cab from the Changi Airport to PGPR (that was 8th January to be exact lol). At first I thought it was just the highlight ride of some theme park here in Singapore, then I just learned that it was actually a tourist attraction for one to see the whole of Singapore, and was totally not a thrill ride of some sort. And since Dake, Wayne, Maria and I really feel that we are supposed to be tourists here, of course, we gave it a try.
We reserved tickets online, and we reserved a 6:30PM ride (a ride takes 30 minutes) because we thought it was the perfect time to see the sunset. To our disappointment, we didn't see the sunset heh! We totally forgot that sunset here is normally at around 7:30PM unlike the Philippines' 6:40ish. Wtf.
It was amazing. The lobby was impressive, and there were super strict security measures, including having to check- in some stuff and undergoing the X-ray of the things that we will bring along with us in the capsule. We were perfectly aware that it wasn't the Changi airport, but Dake came up with the great logic that we had to do all those since we are going to "fly". LOL. The park inside the terminal was nice too, although it was full of Yakult signs, maybe the primary sponsor of the Singapore Flyer. Haha.
Here are some observations that I've made while there:
- It was not really friendly to the disabled. There was no lift going up, or maybe it wasn't that conspicuous, so what's the point of putting it there, right? One also has to sort of run to enter the capsule, since the flyer does not stop when people are boarding. I saw a man on a wheelchair after our ride. Hmmm.
- The promotional campaign saying that it's very hard to book for a ride is NOT true. Very few people ride and many of them didn't book beforehand.
- Singapore is really small, I wonder how the buildings fit here.
- Dake's and Wayne's phones changed from Singtel service to My Maxis, a Malaysian telecom operator, when we were on top of the flyer. Amazing. My phone's settings didn't change though. Maybe because my phone's old. Lol.
- The
Esplanade is really cute.
- The satay in Malacca tastes better than the Satay in Makansutra (sp?).
After the ride, we went to the Esplanade Mall area to watch
Imago perform for free. Yay. I'm not really a fan of Imago, but I like them so I was really excited last night.
I'm getting broke again.
