this post is brought to you by (well, from) my fancy new apartment.
yes, that's right. my fancy new apartment.
some of you may remember me talking about the apartment i found on craigslist in my last post. at that point, i'd only just talked to the guy about it. a few days later i went in, looked at some of the units and filled out my application after falling in love with the place even more. i got a phone call less than five hours later telling me that i passed everything and could secure the apartment as soon as i was ready. the next day i came in and paid my security deposit. after that it was a two week wait until the current tennant moved out, and another week before i had the resources to move in. i've been here for almost a week now and am more pleased with the whole situation than i really imagined i'd be.
i'd attempt to explain what it looks like but i'm generally terrible at that sort of thing. instead i've drawn you a handy-dandy floorplan. it's not very big, but it's got more space than you'd imagine for only 450 measly sq. ft.
my favorite things so far have got to be: the windows with the ginormous windowsill(s). a favorite passtime of mine is sitting in them chillin' with a cup of coffee and my fire escape (
crappy fire escape picture), the absolutely ginormous closet that is actually my bedroom, and the creaky old hardwood floors (
crappy floor pictures).
but really, i love it all. the building i live in was built in the late 20s/early 30s and it's got a creepy, old hotel type of feeling to it. the people i've met so far in here seem like a nice enough bunch, and i've even hung out with the neighbors across the courtyard and one floor up. the guy that lives there, though, claims that he doesn't really know any of his neighbors, which leads me to believe they all pretty much keep to themselves. which is nice, because i don't have to go out of my way to make crap conversation that i don't care about.
as far as getting settled in goes, i've got quite a ways to go. i have no furniture (except for this fancy plastic lawn chair my ass is currently sitting in), no plates or bowls to eat out of, and most of my shit is still packed up. i have no idea where the nearest grocery store is and haven't really left my house to explore the area (which, truth be told, i knew was going to happen. shut in, anyone?) the good news is i've only been here less than a week and have plenty of time to deal with all of that nonsense.
in other news, i know i promised exciting long stories about my last few month's adventures but i lied. i mostly did succeed in my month long soberness. i only allowed myself to drink, and only slipped up twice while completely wasted and hit the weed. anyway, i attempted to compile all my stories and wasn't satisfied with any of my overly long rambling nonsense, so i gave up. i'll sum it all up sometime soon, seeing as i still think most of it is mildly interesting.
hempfest is coming up again next weekend and i'm more than excited. the rumor mill is going again and i hear mushrooms are in the area. even with my lack of money i can always afford some of those magical little fungi. if so, hempfest is going to be a completely new experience. my order of salvia came in recently so tonight might be experiment night with ms. christina, a bong, and a gram of very, very potent salvia extract.
i guess that's it for now. i'm happy to say that after a shit-fuck horrible start to this year, it's done a complete 180 and everything is fanfuckingtastic. i expect it to stay this way.
