I am so very happy for Elaina and Dave. They had planned on having several people in the room when their daughter was born, but Elaina lost her phone and they didn't have any way to get a hold of anyone. So it was just the two of them for the whole thing. Elaina did the worst of the labor at home. By the time anyone found out they were at the hospital, Elaina was in the home stretch.

Turns out you can get from Burien to Puyallup in under 20 min, Google thinks it should take 31 minutes. Google is not properly motivated, I was properly motivated. I was walking down the hall when I heard Katie's first cry. I expected a couple of the aforementioned people to be in the room. No one was there except the staff and Dave. I was the first person to get to see little Katherine Elizabeth, if 8 lbs 11 oz can be counted as little. Elaina looked radiant and Dave looked like a proud papa. I'm not sure if he was more proud of his baby girl or his wife. He is very impressed that she did the whole thing nearly naturally. I'm impressed, too.

Angel arrivee, maybe, 20 minutes after I did. Watching the Godmother see her goddaughter for the first time just filled my heart. Angel rooted in the spot she was in the first time she laid eyes on Katie. She had a look of pure wonder, joy and amazement on her face. I cannot adequately describe the love that was visibly coming from Angel. That little girl will have all of the love and support she can handle as long as Angel has breath in her body.

Elaina and Katie only took under an hour to figure out the whole feeding process. Dave wanted a smoke so Angel stayed with Elaina and Katie while I went with Dave. The three of them got feeding figured out while Dave was raving about how amazing Elaina is while we were outside. I'm not sure Dave's feet touched the floor the whole time I was there. The only thing that kept him from floating away was pure awe of his wife and daughter. It was amazing to watch Elaina and Dave watch Katie in wonder. Dave and Elaina both have the touch of comfort that can only be given by parents.

Elaina's mom and sister got to the hospital about 8:00, I think. They both got to walk around the room with Katie and they started right in with talking to her about family. I feel so blessed to have been able to be in the same room.

Due to a mishap with the car rental I drove mom and Aunt Judy back to Elaina and Dave's to feed the pups and get some sleep. It was quite an eventful day.
