Today was a very good day. After a good morning of cooking at the Meadows, I decided it was time to spend some money at Shake It records. I went in looking for albums from Dillinger Four (a band I had been told was one of the true must-know in the punk world), Hot Water Music (a band that has long intrigued me), and the Weakerthans (Left and Leaving).
When I walked out, I knew it had been a successful day but little did I realize how successful. I had picked up the last two DVDs to basically complete my collection (Apocalypse Now Redux [I finally caved and gave up on finding regular] and LA Confidential), both used for nine bucks. Score one. Then I put Dillinger Four's Situationist Comedy in and discovered that I had been living life to about a third of its fullest up until that moment. I can't tell you how much I love this band. In less than twelve hours, they have managed to completely change my perspective on punk and music in general. Amazing.
Then I ate Chipotle with Claire and fell asleep on her floor after a visit to Kroner.
Then Rick got a funnel cake from a random person on the street and Joe, Lauren, and I proceeded to be amused as he inhaled it at Perkins real good and drunk.
In summary, today gets twelve out of a possible four stars. Life is good. I'm getting a new job. I have a new place. My friends are putting together a ska band that I'm genuinely excited about. I have almost everything that I want and that last thing seems more within reach than it ever has and probably ever will. I'm not honestly expecting to get it, but I'm going to fucking try. Consequences be damned!
